Kamigami – 77 Part 6

‘Understood. However, it is quite a thankless battle. Even if we achieve victory, it will only lead to the same morning repeating itself. And we won’t even remember anything.’

‘Do not be greedy. Look at it this way, the longer we survive, the longer the Hero will be forced to face us. Why not drag this out forever? And force them into this neverending bog, without victory or defeat?’

It was not a very amusing joke, but the monsters were roused as they got to their feet.

Pulled by their spirits, Sheto started to follow after them.

‘Unfortunately, that won’t be happening.’

Came the voice from the water mirror. Salia turned her head to the speaker.

Furukamuto had a thin smile as he spoke happily to the ‘eyes’ on the other side.

‘I know what you are thinking. Indeed, if that happened, we would end up carrying that troublesome poison again and be forced to repeat the same morning.’

Inside of the newly established command post, Yasuharu listened to the voice of the Seer.

Everything was silent now. It was hard to believe there had been such a commotion earlier. All of the soldiers were either sleeping or on watch.

‘Do you really think that I would allow that so easily?’

The save screen was already open on the tablet. Up until then, access had been restricted, and they had been working in secret because of the ritual. But there was no longer a need for such caution.

‘…Really. How spiteful can you be, hmm?’

Through the screen, he saw the minotaur looking up with an expression dark with hatred.

‘So you waited until our conclusion reached that single point, only to crush every last shred of hope! Indeed, it is a waste that you are a god! If you had been born in the demon world, that rotted mind of yours would have been seen as a virtue!’

‘You are speaking nonsense. This is merely karmic retribution. The hammer of judgements that falls on those who defy the gods.’

The Seer’s voice was more cheerful than usual, and it grated on Yasuharu’s nerves. Having to repeat the same day over and over again did not make him feel well.

‘Now then, let us end this ridiculous charade. Hero, save.’

“Yes…”

With a sense of heaviness, Yasuharu reached for the Save icon.

<If you save, your previous data will be lost. Do you wish to proceed? Y/N>

His finger stopped.

‘What are you doing? Hurry up.’

“Ye-yes. I’m sorry.”

Something felt off. Perhaps it was only fatigue, or maybe his nerves were on edge from the day’s earlier events.

But now that the doubts had surfaced, they began to swell, ringing loudly like a warning bell.

The Seer raised his voice in irritation.

‘What are you doing, Yasuharu! I ordered you to save! Or do you intend to repeat the same morning again and continue those cursed skirmishes with the Hero of Kanirl?!’

At those words, the tension left his entire body, and his finger touched the icon.

<Saving… Complete.>

A string of text scrolled by, and the past data was completely erased.

Now, that same morning would never come again.

“Ah…”

He let his body sink into the seat, slumping back in exhaustion.

And just like that, he had completed everything that he was supposed to.

‘Now, everything has been sealed away. You are free to launch a suicide attack on my main camp now, if you wish. But if you do, you will end up reliving the same evening over and over again.’

Spare me that. I do not want to experience that again for a long time.

Yasuharu severed the connection with the laughing god, and then murmured to himself as he sat alone in the tent.
