‘Now, Sheto. I think you have gotten the hang of using that. It is time to make the Hero sweat a little.’
“Alright.”
He quickly leapt onto the wolf’s back and slipped his feet into the stirrups.
Clamping his thighs tightly around the powerful body, Sheto leaned forward and shouted.
“Go, Guto!”
The world seemed to surge forward at once as Sheto headed straight into the enemy ranks.
—
“I see.”
The Seer watched as Sheto headed towards their camp.
“So that divine vessel is your trump card.”
“Indeed. It is called the Fenrir Tooth, the Twin Fangs of the Demon Wolf.”
It nocked the Frost Moon Arrow spell in place of a physical arrow. It was easy to handle for a kobold, and would be a good way to increase his offensive power.
“I can see that it has improved his accuracy. And the power exceeds that of the ordinary Frost Moon Arrow. However…”
On the wolf’s back, the kobold loosed another volley of magic arrows. But the soldiers, shields raised, did not even flinch as they blocked the attack.
“With layers of defensive magic and shields tightly together, it will amount to little.”
“Oh? In that case… Sheto, proceed with the next test shot.”
The bow was drawn back in a single, smooth motion. But this time, the light was not silver, but golden.
Streaks of light tore through the air, smashing both shields and the shoulders of the men.
“Solar Piercing Thrust? Well, it makes no difference. Magicians, deploy the anti-magic barrier.”
Be the infantry’s shields, a wall of green light rose to block the way. Still, the kobold continued to charge on his wolf.
“Sheto, use the blessing. In the order that I told you.”
‘Okay!’
Once more, a silver arrow was nocked. The glow shifted to white, then deepened in a bright crimson.
‘Goooo!!’
The light split apart and then slammed into the barrier. And without fulfilling its purpose, the barrier dispersed like mist, leaving the soldiers exposed to the volley. A moment later, they were blown away.
The star wolf leapt easily over the fallen troops, breaching the camp in an instant.
“…So you applied blessings to standby magic. Power that would normally be released in an instant is not enhanced by the blessing he used.”
“And by slipping an offensive blessing in between, even spells that should cancel each other out can be combined, imbued and fired.”
The kobold was not in the center of the enemy camp. While remaining mounted on the wolf, he scanned his surroundings carefully.
“Yasuharu, send a message to all units on standby. Form a circular shield formation around the kobold. Have the giant beast subjugation units hold position at their designated points, and commence a coordinated volley from the magician unit.”
The formation took shape as ordered, yet the kobold remained calm.
He did glance around as if searching for an escape route, but did nothing else as the magicians took up position.
“Infantry, advance. Magicians… Fire at will!”
At that command, hundreds of magic projectiles rose into the air and rained down over the kobold.
The effect of the break art was to cancel out the magic, but it could not erase the force contained within its impact. They planned to stop him with countless Frost Moon Arrows, and then finish him off with the sword of the giant beat subjugation unit.
However…
‘Now, Guto!’
With that shout, the kobold and wolf vanished from the field.
