Shinmai Boukensha – 58

Day 58: Kobold Call
Holy Era 6102, Month of the Water Serpent, 10th day.
Weather: Unknown

Ah, I slept well. I think this might be the first time I slept soundly in a dungeon.
When I looked around, I saw that Rai and Sebas looked exhausted.
Mr. Gein was staring silently into the distance… Yes, as always, his face was scary.
As for Ms. Noa, she was passing out cheese to the kobolds.
Judging by her expression, she seemed to be having fun, and so I didn’t need to worry about her being tired.

We were quite lucky in terms of camping outdoors this time.
Indeed, this was because we were currently enjoying the hospitality of the kobolds.
It was thanks to their vigilant watchfulness that I was able to sleep so well.
As for how this situation came to be, it was when we were working at the mining point. We met the kobolds once again.
And when I gave them some cheese, they led us back to their home…

Well, at first, Rai and the others were strongly against staying here.
And so I left him outside to do as he pleased. But after some time, he seemed to realize that it was no good, and he became quiet after that.
Of course, he did. After all, we were in a dungeon. It didn’t matter if it was day or night outside. There were always monsters prowling about.
…It was rare to be able to find a safe place like this, with its own guards.

Now, Ms. Noa had finished passing out the cheese to show our gratitude. And so it was time to depart.
When we left their home, the kobolds waved at us with looks of regret.
Next time, we will bring a lot more cheese!!
…Huh? Rai looks very sleepy. That’s why I told him to get some rest.

I was worried about how unstable his feet were as we walked back to the mining spot.
Today is the day we will dig up some mithril! We weren’t able to find any yesterday.
Even the kobolds wouldn’t tell us, after we gave them cheese… Well, they did tell us, but it was all fae-silver.
But they didn’t seem to be able to tell the difference, and were puzzled as they looked up at our disappointed faces… They looked so cute!!

By the way, you could not tell silver, mithril or fae-silver apart by justlooking at them. But you could use mana to differentiate them.
It was a good thing that Ms. Noa was with us. Neither I or the others had the aptitude for mana…so we could barely use it.
Testing it is actually quite simple… It was just a matter of seeing if you can transfer the mana within your body into the ore with ease… If only I could use magic…

Like this, it was another day of digging out ore and having Ms. Noa test it. Over and over again.
…But none of it was mithril, and I was starting to get bored… Ah, now Rai is asleep.
As I was feeling exasperated over his slothful sleeping expression, suddenly…

—Clank, clank.

The sound of something being struck echoed through the mines. The kobold call!?
The sound that means some disaster has occurred within the mines!?
Ah, in the tunnel up ahead, the kobolds are calling to us with frantic voices!
So it’s safe over there! Retreat! We must all retreat!!

We rushed to them. But on the way, Rai tripped and fell… Damn it!
I frantically turned back and pulled him up to his feet. But then the ground under us began to crumble…
Around me, things felt like they were moving in slow motion… Was Ms. Noa screaming? Mr. Sebas?

However, both Rai and I were pulled down in the collapse. And we vanished into the darkness of the underground…

Today’s earnings and expenses:
(Fae-silver and other ore)

Balance: 47 silver, 71 bronze
