Strange Dragon – 117

Chapter 117 – Gisela’s Story

I thought it was a little strange.
Would Lilia really have helped because Gisela complained?

Usually, she would have said, ‘Now, now’ and tried to console her.

“Gisela. Do you know why Lilia helped you?”
“I think it was because I said that I hated my work.”
“Hmm. But did you say anything else?”
“Hmm. Hmm. Ah, that’s right. She did say something about how it was good timing.”
“Good timing?”
“There was some movement. And there were a lot of people who would want my help.”

Apparently, Gisela did not really understand.
But Victor and I looked at each other understandingly.

“So that is why.”
“That sounds very troublesome. It’s a good thing that we came here.”
“I see…”

Gisela was smiling cheerfully.
As she was always eager to help others, they may have been an attempt to use her.
As Gisela was popular with the people, many would want to use her for their political schemes.

Perhaps it was something subtle that most did not even realize.
But Lilia was a Sage, and she would be different.

So she might have wanted to keep Gisela away from all of that.

Victor nodded in agreement.

“I see. Well, Ms. Gisela has worked hard up until now. I think you should be able to do as you like.”
“I knew you would understand, old Victor!”
“With Gisela here, my research should go more smoothly.”

Kelly was right.
Gisela’s combat ability was incredibly high. The investigation of the new continent could be conducted more safely with her.
The Geologists and Climatologists would be very pleased.

“Yes, leave it to me! I will help you!”

Gisela said happily as she sat up.
I became worried.

“Gisela, you’re getting too excited. You ate a red poison berry. And so you must rest.”
“But I drank the medicine, didn’t I? So I am healed.”
“No, you aren’t. Now rest quietly.”
“Fine.”

And so Gisela lay down in her bed.

“Now, we understand the situation with Gisela on the old continent.”
“That is good.”

The shrunken Hippolius then lay next to Gisela.
It was probably trying to help to keep her warm.
Hippolius was a kind baby dragon.

“So Hippolius can become small. What an amazing dragon. How impressive.”
“Kyuo-kyuo.”

Gisella started to hold and pet Hippolius.
Hippolius looked happy and pressed its nose against her.

Upon seeing it, I suddenly wondered something.
How did Gisela know that Hippolius was a dragon?
Hippolius looked like a hippopotamus.

“…Gisela. How did you know that Hippolius was a dragon?”
“I just did?”

Gisela looked like she didn’t know why I was asking that.
Up until now, the only person who noticed that Hippolius was a dragon, was Kelly, who was a Monsterologist.

“Perhaps Kelly taught you how to tell dragons apart?”
“I did not teach her.”
“Yes, she did not.”
“To be precise, I attempted to teach her but stopped, because she did not seem interested.”

Said Kelly. Gisela puffed out her cheeks as if offended.

“It was not that I was not interested. But I forget everything, except for the part about how to defeat them.”
“Maybe it’s because that is the only part that matters to you.”
“You too, Mr. Theo!? But it is not true!”

Victor then laughed and said,

“Ms. Gisela. You are very perceptive. Brilliant.”
“Hehe.”

Gisela seemed pleased by this compliment.

“By the way, Ms. Gisela. How did you come to the new continent?”
“I rode on a flying dragon.”

Victor was surprised by this.
As Gisela did not have the taming skill, it would be difficult to ride on a dragon.

“I asked one of Theo’s dragon friends, and they agreed.”
“It’s amazing you were able to communicate with them without the taming skill.”
“I wasn’t really communicating. I just asked and it seemed to work.”

And then she explained.
After she was fired and became free, she headed to the demon continent.

“Originally, I was going to leave by ship, at the same port that you did, Theo. But then I met a dragon on the way.”
“…That flying dragon is not on the way.”
“I got lost.”

We had left from a fishing village called Cariari.
The flying dragon lived in a completely different direction, that was about one week’s journey on foot.
It was not somewhere you could reach by getting a little lost.

“Well, in any case, I met the dragon. And when I said I wanted to go to the new continent to meet Theo, it said it would carry me.”
“I see. You were quite lucky.”
“Mr. Theo. Is it possible to do such a thing without the taming skill?”
Victor was right to wonder this.

“Normally, it would not be possible.”
“Indeed. Perhaps it is the power of a Hero.”
“Well, that dragon is also very old. So perhaps it has learned to understand human speech.”
“I see. But then how did Gisela understand the dragon?”
“Intuition? I think. Sometimes, I just know things.”

Gisela said this as if it was nothing. But it was something that would usually be impossible.

“As a monsterologist, I am very jealous of that ability.”
“…Well, she is a Hero.”
“Yes, a Hero.”

Hero’s existed outside of the norms of humanity.
It was best to not think about it too deeply.

“Now, Gisela. I understand how you came to be on the new continent. Now tell us how you became friends with Boaboa.”
“Boaboa?”

Victor looked puzzled.

“Ah, a giant boar. I think it was the creature that made a mess in the fields last night.”
“I see.”

I then told Victor and Kelly about what happened between leaving the base and meeting Gisela.
Victor and Kelly listened with serious expressions.

In the meantime, Gisela seemed to be interested in Ije and Fio, as she patted them on the head.

“Can you tell us how you became friends with the boar family?”
“No, Mr. Theo. That is wrong.”
“What is?”
“Boaboa is not a boar, but a Chimera.”

Gisela said with a very serious face.
