Chapter 11 – Beyond Grudges
The god seat was shaking to an abnormal degree. Something heavy was banging on the other side of the door.
“Bu-but, this is my world. Such a thing isn’t…”
The doors on each side of the hall were just marks for convenience. And so banging on them should do little more than annoy the dryad guards.
“Hey! Canila! How long do you mean to keep me out here! Open up!”
It sounded like he was slamming the door with his giant tail.
The dragon god’s overwhelming power was affecting the very air. Not only that, but she was supposed to be cut off inside, and yet she could still hear his voice.
“St-stop this! What do you mean by this behavior!”
“It’s because you keep acting like a pathetic NEET! And after I went through the trouble of coming here.”
“Ple-please. Leave me! I do not want to meet anyone anymore!”
“I don’t care about that. Do you want me to break down the door?”
“You cannot change my mind!”
“You will talk to Fi, but not to me?”
“Please. Just leave me alone!”
The dragon sighed on the other side of the door. Had he given up?
But her expectations were not met.
‘r――――――――z――――――――m――――――s――r――w――――’
A melody that polished the world itself filled the god seat. And the moment it touched the door, all the divine power placed upon it ceased its resistance and was scattered.
“Th-the ‘Divine Dragon’s Roar’?! To intrude on another’s god seat with divine power is an act that violates the very pact of the gods!”
‘I don’t care. I will make my excuses later.
The barrier was torn with the sound of a splitting tree, and then the dragon’s giant form entered the god seat.
“Wh-what do you mean by this! Coming all of this way!”
When the chanting stopped, the dragon god looked at her with a frown.
“That’s what I should be saying to you. You’ve been ignoring the calls from my Fi. Not only that, but you refuse to meet me when I visit!”
“I-I have my reasons!”
“Don’t make me repeat myself.”
The fumes came hot from his nostrils as spoke angrily.
“The ridiculous reasons of lesser gods is nothing to me.”
“You…you gods are so…”
She was at her limit now.
The white hot fury within Canila exploded.
“You gods are all alike! Because you have power! You stand on your high horses and force us to do as you please! Does it feel so good to be able to trample on the weak!”
“Wh…what?”
“Then do as you wish! Spit on my heart and feelings like they are dirt! What’s next? Go on, do as you will! You…wretched, moldy old old worm! Be cursed for all eternity!”
“…I haven’t been insulted like that for a thousand years. Haha. How funny!”
The dragon nodded with satisfaction.
“Very well then. Now, do you feel a little better, after spitting that all out?”
“Huh…?”
“The Seer told you, didn’t he? That he would kill Keita if you rejoined Sheto.”
It was then that she finally realized everything.
They would not be able to talk properly if she was depressed. And so he used that insolent attitude to make her angry and unleash her frustrations.
“Ah…you understood my mind…I was rude…”
“Do not apologize for it. It’s annoying. Besides, it is ruining my act… Anyway, Fi. Were you listening?”
‘Yes. I heard everything from Canila’s side!’
“Forget it. Now, while I have my guesses, tell me. What happened after we separated?”
And so Canila did as he said. About what she and Keita had experienced. Slowly, she explained. The loss of his village and the truth that she could not tell anyone else.
‘What the hell! You have to be kidding me! Is that what gods do! They’re just common scammers!’
The young dragon cursed. The dragon god nodded and stroked his muzzle.
“So he not only tricked Salia, but you as well. Next time, I’ll recommend that he become the god of scams.”
“Salia…?”
“Aye. He brought up that Sheto was a monster and tried to make everyone believe she was connected to the Demon King and the demon world.”
