Day 96: Kelpy
Holy Era 6102, Month of the Seven Night Horses, 18th day.

Yesterday, we camped near the bathing spot, and then headed upstream in the morning.
After walking for some time, a large pool appeared up ahead.
Even though the water was clear, we could not see the bottom…it must be really deep.
The kind of environment that a kelpy would like.
Now, as for the method of capturing the kelpy… It involved using a bit.
A bit is a metal tool that is used to attach the reins to a horse.
However, when attaching it to a kelpy, you must avoid touching its body.
If you touch a kelpy’s body once, you will not be able to move away from it until you are in the water.
And if that happened, you would be dragged down…
Because of this, we would have to use a trap to prevent it from moving first.
Safety is best!
As for the trap, we will use a durable rope and tie it so that there is a loop at the end.
And the loop would tighten when you pull on the rest of the rope.
We would put it on the ground and cover it in leaves, and then tie the other end to a strong tree.
And just as the kelpy passes through, we can pull the rope and capture it.
It was too crude to even call a trap, but considering it was done in a hurry, it wasn’t too bad.
After setting the trap, we hid in the bushes and waited for the kelpy, but… It would not come out.
Ah, I know! Ms. Nico. Do you have that thing you took out in the dungeon?

As the kelpy’s front led stepped inside of the ring, we all pulled the rope at once.
The loop became smaller in the blink of an eye. After having its leg bound, the kelpy began to thrash wildly.
The resistance was even greater than expected… We have to hurry with the bit.
Thinking this, I began to approach it. And then I heard a snap!
!! Did the rope…break!?
As I stood there, shocked, the kelpy dashed towards me.
I tried to jump to the side in order to dodge it, but just as it would have passed me, its mouth clamped onto my sleeve.
And while I was still in its grip, the kelpy lept towards the pool!
In an instant, I was floating in the air. The surface of the water was right below me.
I frantically held my breath just as we hit the water.
Once we were in the water, the kelpy let go of me.
I quickly pushed my head out of the water and took a deep breath.
On the other side of the bank, Ms. Noa and Ms. Nico were shouting.
Huh? Behind me?
When I turned around, the kelpy was charging with its mouth wide open!
Ah, I cannot avoid it now… I’m in the water, and my movements are…
Just as I was about to give up, a shield of light appeared as if to block the kelpy’s advance.
Ms. Noa’s ring of protection! The sudden intrusion seemed to shock the kelpy.
Now was my chance! While it’s confused, I have to put the bit in its mouth!

And then the kelpy quickly became calm and began to swim around me.

I climbed onto the kelpy’s back and returned to dry land. Ms. Nico was teary-eyed as she threw her arms around me.
