Shinmai Boukensha – 97

Day 97: It really was different from a horse.

Holy Era 6102, Month of the Seven Night Horses, 19th day.

Weather: Sunny

Yesterday, we set up camp by the pool where we caught the kelpy.

After eating breakfast, we quickly made preparations to leave.

Now, it was time to attach the saddle.

As it would be a long journey, the proper riding equipment is very important.

Ah, the saddle and bit came from Ms. Noa.

Apparently, she had stored them a long time ago… She really had just about anything in her dimension storage.

One day, I would like to see all of it.

It was with such thoughts in my head that I started to put on the saddle. But then I paused.

Huh? Why were there three?

Clearly the kelpy was not big enough for all of them.

…It looked like a regular sized horse.

Though, normally you wouldn’t have three people on a single horse…

As I wondered what to do, Ms. Noa explained the shocking truth to me.

Apparently, a kelpy’s back could elongate depending on how many people were riding on it.

She said that in the past, a kelpy had carried many children on its back and dragged them into the water.

And so three people was nothing. What a strange power!?

…Also, I didn’t need to hear that story about the children!

Now I’m afraid to ride it!

As I looked a little pale, Ms. Noa chuckled.

Yes, yes, I know. Even if it is tamed now, I must not forget that it is a water spirit.

I could not let my guard down just because it looked like a horse…

But just as I was thinking this, the kelpy peered into my face.

Those dark round, big eyes… Ah, it was so cute.

…Ah! No, no! It is not a horse!

I repeated it to myself, and then continued the work of attaching the saddles.

I put the first one on and then…the back really did elongate!

Once I was finished attaching all of them, the kelpy was abnormally long!

It was a little eerie seeing it like that… I no longer thought it was cute.

I was expecting something more like those long forest critters…how unfortunate.

…As preparations were complete, it was time to depart.

Ms. Noa held the reins, and then Ms. Nico sat behind her while I took the rear.

And then Ms. Noa pulled on the reins, and the kelpy started to move.

She kept it at a trot in the forest and changed to a gallop on the road.

Woah! It is so fast! Much faster than a carriage!

Like that, we continued our journey without rest, and arrived at the campsite just before the sun started to set.

What a surprise… We had planned to reach this spot in a few days…

Kelpy had astonishing legs.

After setting up camp, we sat down to eat dinner.

That’s right, what does a kelpy even eat?

Ms. Noa said it could eat the grass around us.

As I was about to remove the bit so that it could eat, Ms. Noa told me to not remove the other riding gear.

Apparently, it would run away if you took everything off… Very interesting.

However, I felt bad about it having to have three saddles, so I removed just two of them.

When I was finished, the kelpy seemed to smile at me.

Hmm. Now it did look like an ordinary, cute horse…

Well, we better sleep early and prepare for tomorrow.

At this rate, we should be able to arrive at Marga Town way ahead of schedule.

Today’s earnings and expenses:

Nothing.
