We thought about the familiar relationships together
“I can see that you and Sherry mean a lot to each other too. Don’t you agree, Leo?”
“Wou!”
“Thank you.”
“Now, back to the subject at hand. Uh, as it is law, we cannot prevent masters from seeing familiars as property?”
“Yes. And so no matter what they do, it is just something they are doing to their own property.”
“Hmm… I see.”
In Deurgo’s case, he had been involved in other criminal activity. Also, we had used the duke’s authority as well, so it was an exception.
It was not something we could use all of the time, and Claire did not like to use force.
“It might be difficult to change everything all at once. But if it was little by little…”
“Mr. Takumi?”
“Wuff?”
“Ah, sorry. I was just thinking…”
I was desperate to think of an idea, and had become so lost in thought that I forgot that I was with Claire for a moment.
And so I turned my focus back to her and Leo.
“Not at all… You have been able to come up with good ideas in the past, Mr. Takumi. And so I am the one who is sorry for bothering you…”
“No, no, no. It’s not like thinking of a good idea is guaranteed. Besides, you are overrating my ability.”
“Hehe. If you say so.”
I did not think of myself as very bright. If anything, I had to think hard during such times. But Claire seemed to think that I was likely to have a good idea when I did.
Of course, it did make me want to meet her expectations, and look good in her eyes.
Though, in many such cases with women, they often just wanted you to listen to their problems, and did not necessarily expect you to have some kind of solution.
“But I think you might be right, Mr. Takumi. Instead of trying to change everything in one night, we must take it slowly…”
“Is that what I said?”
“Yes. You were muttering to yourself.”
“Wuff.”
“Oh, you heard that… How embarrassing… Anyway, if it was more gradual, I suppose people would accept it?”
“Yes, I think so. And eventually, the monster familiars will be seen as their own person…”
I didn’t know how far it could go, but it was good that she had such goals.
If things moved too quickly, there would be all kinds of problems, and likely a lot of resistance.
“With the mistreatment of familiars…everything is based on the decisions of individuals… So it’s…difficult to prevent injury…”
Mistreatment itself could be defined differently depending on who you ask.
This was a world where you could be attacked by monsters…so it was difficult to prevent injury completely.
“In that case… I know! No violence against familiars! And do not throw them out irresponsibly! What about that?”
“Wuff! Wou-wuff!”
“Oh, Leo seems to agree too. Hmm…”
Claire had an idea, and she declared it with a bright expression. Leo also barked in approval.
Though, I wished they kept it down a little. Liza and Sherry were sleeping…
“It’s not bad. A good idea, actually. But…I suppose the violence part needs to be clearly defined. I do think it is necessary to stop abandonment.”
It would help familiars like Volgrau in the future.
Also, it reminded me of when I rescued Leo.
What Claire was suggesting was similar to the animal protection laws in Japan.
