Strange Dragon – 199

Chapter 199 – Spirits and Humans

Kelly was quiet, and the whole dining hall was silent for a moment. And then Gisel opened her mouth.

“Well, I still think that the spirit near the castle was a fenrir! Just my intuition, though.”
“Gisela’s intuition is often right.”
“Exactly!”

And then the Adventurers started to talk about the fenrir spirit as well.

They were all quite interested.

“By the way, Kelly.”
“What? If there is something you are curious about, Mr. Theo, then ask me anything. Perhaps it could lead to a breakthrough.”
“Uh, you said that spirits are not demon beasts or even living creatures for the matter.”
“Indeed. They do not have a body, after all. Your taming skill wouldn’t work, would it?”
“Yes. However, we can still talk, kind of…”
“Well, there are some spirits like that.”

There was a story about a village who worshiped a water spirit. And sso they would pray to the spirit when they wanted it to rain.

In other words, they had succeeded in conveying their wish to the spirit with words.

“If you can communicate with them, that means these spirits have received the grace of the god of language. In other words…”
“They are human?”
“It is possible.”

I said, and Kelly thought about it with a serious expression.

“…I don’t think so.”

“Really?”

“Yes. But I like your way of thinking. But in the first place, even monsters and animals can sometimes understand humans, can’t they?”
“Yes, that’s true.”

Dogs, horses, birds. Animals that spend a lot of time with humans seem to be able to understand them a little.

“Intelligent animals are able to learn, after all. And spirits are very intelligent.”
“I see. So even if they understand words, it does not mean they are human.”
“Yes. Now, if both sides could have a full conversation, that would be different.”
“I see.”

Apparently, I was quite wrong.

“Thank you, Mr. Theo.”
Said Kelly.

“Huh? For what?”

“For the interesting idea. I feel like it widened my view.”
“Well, I’m glad to be of use.”
“Yes.”

In the meantime, Gisela held the crystal up to Shiro’s nose.

“Shiro! Shiro! Look at this.”
“Wuff?”

It was the crystal that Shiro had scratched earlier.

“Hmph!”

–Gari!

Gisela grunted as she scratched it with her nails.

“See!”
There was a clear mark on the crystal.

“Wuff!?”

Gisela showed it to Shiro proudly.

“Gisela, don’t be childish. You’re not in a competition with Shiro.”

I said with a little exasperation.

She was a Hero. So it was not surprising that she could do that.

“…Wou.”

Shiro looked sad.

“I-I’m sorry.”

Gisela said frantically.

“Y-you are more amazing, Shiro.”
“…Au?”

But Shiro was still sad.

It was clear that Gisela was just saying things now.

After all, her scratch was deeper.

“But you didn’t charge your claws with magic energy. And so it’s more impressive.”
“Wuff?”

“Strong people often charge their attacks like that. You didn’t know?”

“Wuff?”

Shiro tilted her head to the side.

She clearly did not know what Gisela was talking about.

Well, demon beasts generally did not think about using it.

It was done naturally, without being conscious of it.

“You charge it up, and it spreads through your body…”

Gisela was trying and failing to explain it.

And so I explained in her place.

“Shiro. Strong humans and monsters use magic to strengthen their bodies.”
“Wuff.”

Shiro listened seriously.

When I looked to the side, the Adventurers were also nodding.

The Adventurers on the expedition were all very skilled.

Of course, they could strengthen their bodies as well.

“Entering combat mode means you are strengthening your body with energy.”
“Wuff.”

Without doing such a thing, it would be difficult for humans to beat wolves.

And fighting a bear would be nearly impossible.

Even with a sword and armor.

“It is something that just happens naturally.”
“Wuff?”

“Ah, I do it as well. Even if I just carry their luggage, it is a requirement for all Adventurers.”

“Wuff.”

“And claws and fangs can be charged up as well.”
“Wuff!?”

Shiro was surprised by this.

Even though Shiro’s parents and grandparents would have been doing it.

“But you are young, Shiro. So it’s no wonder that you can’t.”
“Wuff…”

“Kelly. At what age can demon wolves do it?”

“It depends on what type they are. But it is normal for them to be able to do it before becoming an adult.”
“Do their parents have to teach them then?”
“I think they just watch their parents. Like learning to hunt.”

However, Shiro’s parents had already died.

So someone must give her an example instead.
