Strange Dragon – 140

Chapter 140 – Preparing to build the hallway

First, I thought about the necessary features.
Protection from wind, snow and rain. Those were the primary reasons I was building it.
Also, since you would be walking through them with your shoes, it should be easy to clean and also durable.

“The floor can be stone…and the walls and roof will be wood.”

As I had plenty of that in storage, there was no need to gather it.

“And I will make it so that Boaboa can enter the courtyard.”

The center of the base, where I was currently standing, was a wide open space.
And all of the entrances of the buildings were pointed at it.
We would sometimes drink and celebrate here.
Aside from that, we would hang laundry or stack up firewood.
You could do simple work there as well.

“Hmm…”

However, if I wanted to make it so that Boaboa could come in, then I could not connect the hallways.
I suppose if I really wanted to, I could make the halls underground, or above like a bridge.
However, it would take more materials, and be less convenient when crossing.

“Or I could make just one place open up…”

One hall could have an extra high roof, and a door that opened up so that Boaboa could walk through.

“Still, perhaps we should have a different place that we can all gather together, and not just the courtyard.”

During the warm season, it might best to gather in front of Boaboa’s house, like yesterday.”
However, it would be difficult during the winter.
It would be better for Boaboa to come here, as she had fur and was strong against the cold.

“I should also make a storage house for the firewood that is connected to the hallways.”

During the winter, it will be hard to go outside to get more firewood.
And so this would make things easier.

“We would also want a shall shed near the fields.”

In order to store the farming tools.
If anything, that was more important than the hallways right now.

“Well, I will think about that later.”

I muttered to myself as I created the design for the hallway.
In the meantime, the wolf cubs played happily by my feet.
And Pii sat on my shoulder and vibrated.

“Kuro, Roro, Ruru. Sorry that I can’t play with you now.”
‘Let’s play! Let’s play!’
“Auu.”
‘Finished?’

Kuro didn’t care what I said, while Roro and Ruru bit him lightly and played.

“Kyro, Roro, Ruru. Come here.”
“Grau.”

Fio and Shiro picked up the wolf cubs and carried them a short distance away.

“Thank you, Fio and Shiro.”
“Kuro, Roro, Ruru. Play.”
“Grau.”

As Fio and Shiro played with them, I continued with my work.

“The floor should be the easy part. Though, I will have to think about a drain system.”

If I use stone and block it all off completely, then the courtyard might become full with water when it rains.
If it is just light rain, it will probably flow through the cracks and be fine.
Though, it will need to be cleaned regularly so that it doesn’t clog up.
That was troublesome, but manageable.

“But it will be bad if it rains hard. Small gaps between won’t mean much.”

The whole courtyard would overflow.

“Perhaps I could make an emergency drain as well.”

And if I wanted the water to flow out, there would have to be a slant.
And so I used my appraisal skill in order to get a grasp of the ground.

“Hmm… So this is the lowest part.”

So I just needed to make a large drain there.
It would be large enough for a small Hippolius or the wolf cubs to go inside.

“In that case, I might as well make them all thick drains instead of gaps.”

That would make cleaning it easier.
Rats might get inside, but Shiro would do something about them.

“That’s good enough for the floor. As for the walls and roof… They could be like the other buildings.”

That way, I did not have to think about it from scratch.
I could make it all at once with the crafting skill.

“Alright. I finished with all of the thinking. Time to work.”

I took the stone materials from my rock bag.
These were the stones I had gathered up until now.
Most of it was through Hippolius’s help.
And so I had plenty of it.

I stacked up the stones from my magic bag, and then used the appraising skill on them.
As I just needed to cover the ground, it did not require much precision.
Once I had a grasp on the characteristics of the materials, I used the crafting skill.
All I had to do was turn the stone into slabs of varying sizes.
It was not difficult.
And so I made them and placed them on the ground.

‘Rock!’
“Awoo!”
‘Cold.’

For some reason, the wolf cubs took a liking to the stone floor.
They were happily rolling around and playing on top of it.
I suppose it was less about the stone, and more being interested in anything new.
Perhaps they liked how cool it was.

“I’m glad that you like it.”

And so I went around the base and laid down the stone.
