Strange Dragon – 145

Chapter 145 – Playing in the Mud

After I had finished checking the drains, the rain stopped falling as well.

“Alya. Thank you. That was very helpful.”
“…How were they?”

Even someone like Alya was sweating from her forehead after using such great magic.

“The test is finished. I don’t think they will overflow, even if it rains heavily.”
“I’m glad to hear that.”

Alya smiled with a relieved expression.

“Hey, that was amazing, Alya!”

“I heard that you were skilled, but I didn’t realize you were this good!”

Said the Adventurers who had been watching from the buildings. They then tried to rush towards us.

“Woah, it’s so muddy.”

This was because they were going through the courtyard instead of the hallways.

The rain had made the ground wet.

This could not be helped, as it was soil.

Still, it wasn’t like a swamp. There were just a few puddles made.

“Mr. Theo made a stone path. So you should use it.”
“Tha-that’s true.”

The other Adventurers used the hallways as they headed towards Alya.

“It really was impressive magic.”
“Aye. I’ve been an Adventurer for many years, but I never saw anything like that.”
“It was amazing!”
“Wuff-wuff.”

Fio and Shiro were also happy and excited.

Their tails were wagging as they ran in a circle around Alya.

Even Hippolius, who I was carrying, was impressed.

‘Amazing!’

“It was, wasn’t it?”

“Kyuo-kyuo!”
“Hmm? You want to get down?”
‘Down!’

I put Hippolius down, and it ran towards Alya.

Then it joined Fio and Shiro in running around her.

As I watched them…

“Mr. Theo. You were testing the drains?”
Said Victor.

Victor had been with the others in the fields.

“Did you come here because you were worried too? Sorry, I should have told everyone in advance.”

If you were going to use such great magic, it was best to tell the others.

It would have been a great surprise for them to see it rain so suddenly.

“No, I was not really worried. Especially since Ms. Gisela went ahead.”
“So why are you here?”
“Because it is almost time for our break. We came back in order to eat a snack.”
“I see. I just fed the wolf cubs a moment ago.”

“It’s important to eat while you are working.”
“So Ije and the others?”
“Yes, they are on their way back.”

I wanted to give food to Boaboa and dragon as well.

“So, Mr. Theo. How did the test go?”
“There shouldn’t be a problem. After all, Alya made it rain very hard…”

“I see that there are just some large puddles. That is fine then.”

I took off the lids of the drains and showed them to Victor.

“I see. A lot of water can flow down there.”

“Aye. Though, if the lid stays on, then it might get clogged with branches and stones.”

“So it should be removed during heavy rain. Also, regular cleaning will be necessary.”

“Exactly.”

As Victor and I talked about managing the drains…

“Kyafu-kyafu.”
“Au.”
“Au-wau.”

“Kyuo!”

I heard the happy voices of the children.

When I turned to look, I saw that Hippolius and the wolf cubs were playing and rolling around in the courtyard.

As it had just rained, it was obviously muddy.

“Oh…look what is happening.”

“Pii…”

Even Pii, who was perched on my shoulder, was a little disheartened at the sight.

“Well, as long as they are having fun.”

Shiro was looking at them with concern.

“Ga-gaauu…”

A little frantically, Shiro tried to get the cubs out of the mud.

“Ah, Shiro. Wait.”
“Grau?”

If Shiro tried to bring them back, then Shiro would get covered in mud as well.

“Shiro, watch here.”
“Grau.”
“So, how should I do this…”

I could pick them up and carry them to the bath house, but then I would get covered in mud.

I didn’t really mind, but it would be troublesome to have to wash my clothes.

“I know…”

If they would walk to the bath house, then I would only have to erase their paw prints.

As I considered such things, Fio also noticed the shocking state of the wolf cubs.

And she came running towards me.

“Alright? Should Fio carry them?”

“It’s fine. You don’t have to.”
“Okay.”
“They seem to be having fun. So we should let them play until they get bored.”

“Wuff.”

I sat down in the newly built stone hallway, and watched as the children played happily.

Victor then sat down with me.

“Woah. Amazing. Stone!”

“Bubui!”

Ije and Boeboe arrived a moment later.

Ije was surprised by the stone floor.

As for Boeboe, she looked happy when she saw the others playing in the mud.

“Bubui!”

A stone hallway meant nothing to her.

And so she happily charged into the mud as well.
