Strange Dragon – 166

Chapter 166 – Searching for Sugar Beets

Fio, Hippolius and Shiro sniffed the inside of the pot for some time, and then pulled their faces out.

“Have you memorized it?”
“Yes!”
“Kyuo.”
“Wuff.”

While I was asking Hipolius and Shiro, all three answered cheerfully.

Apparently, Fio intended to participate in the search.

Fio’s sense of smell was not as sharp as the others.

However, she seemed confident.

“Fio. Will find too!”
“I see. Well, don’t tire yourself out.”
“Okay!”

And then I stored the pot in my magic bag.

“Fio, Hippolius, Shiro. Just tell me if you forget the smell.”
“Okay! But Fio won’t forget!”

‘Hippolius not forget too!’

“Wau!”

“I see. But don’t hesitate if you do.”

I then turned to Ije.

“Ije. Is there anything else you want to bring?”

“Hmm. No.”

“It’s no problem if you do, since there is plenty of space in the bag.”

“There is?”

Ije was surprised.

The clothes and shoes. Several pots.

All were in the magic bag.

“It was very expensive.”
“I see. Amazing.”
“So…there really is nothing else?”
“Hmm… Not right now.”
“Okay.”
“Yes.”

“Well, if you think of something later, we can come back. Don’t hesitate to tell me.”
“Okay!”

So for now, we had finished our business in Ije’s village.

It was time to go and search for the sugar beets.

I put the playing wolf cubs into the basket.

And then I called to Fio, Hippolius and Shiro.

“Fio, Hippolius, Shiro. It’s time to searching.”
“Okay.”
“Kyuo!”

“Wuff!”

Hippolius came out of Ije’s house and immediately became big.

‘Ride?’

Hippolius looked at me with eyes filled with expectation and a wagging tail.

“No, I need to get some exercise…”
“Kyuo…”
I said, and Hippolius looked very disappointed.

Its tail dropped down sadly.

“Or so I thought. But I am a little tired, so I think I would like a ride.”
“Kyuo-kyuo!”

Hippolius wagged its tail happily.

And so I climbed onto Hippolius’s back.

The basket of wolf cubs and Pii were with me as well.

“What about you, Ije?”

“Ije will walk. Easier to find sugar beet.”
“I see. I suppose Fio will walk too?”
“Yes! Fio walk!”

“But tell me if you feel tired.”
“Okay!”

Fio was enthusiastic.

“What about you, Kelly?”
“I am fine. Perhaps I will ride on the way back.”
‘Tell me when tired!’

Kelly petted Hippolius gently.

After that, we left the village and started to walk and search for the sugar beets.

A short time later, Hippolius and Shiro stopped.

“Kyuo!”
“Grau-grau.”

It looked like they were confiding in each other.

Apparently, they did not know which direction to go.

“Hippolius, Shiro. Can you smell the sugar beets?”
‘A little.’

“Grau.”
‘But can’t tell which direction coming from!’

“I see. Well, there is a wind blowing, and it would be difficult if the smell is weak.”
‘Yes!’

“Grau.”

On the new continent, the sugar beets must have a strong smell.

After all, even Ije’s people had been able to find them.

“Ije. Do you know which direction the gathering area is?”
“Hmm. Ije never went to gather… But maybe…””

Ije was trying to remember.

Even if she had never gone, she might have heard something.

“Last year, taken from there and there.”
“It’s different every year?”
“Not year. Different time.”
“Hoho. How interesting.”

Kelly said.

“In other words, there are multiple gathering spots for the sugar beets.”
“I think so.”
“But you have never gone to any of them.”
“Yes. Said I would go when older.”
“Is it a religious reason?”

“No. Because dangerous for children.”
“Oh?”

Kelly turned to look at me.

“What do you think, Mr. Theo?”

“It must be quite dangerous then.”
“Well, it could just be the road there?”

“That is possible. Like there could be a cliff on the way?”

“They don’t grow near cliffs on the old continent, but we do not know how it is here.”

Kelly thought with a serious expression.

“However, they grow inside the ground, so I doubt it would be near a lot of rocks.”

They were a root vegetable, after all.

If they grew in soil, then the idea of the gathering place being near a cliff was not very likely.
