Chapter 174 – Devil Battle
A mass of magic energy fired from Hippolius’s horn.
It then smashed into the energy that was shooting towards us, knocking it out of the air.
“Kyuoo!”
Hippolius went into an aggressive stance.
And then even more masses of energy came flying.
But Hippolius’s attacks stopped all of them.
“Be-bebebemuu…”
The land shark was shaking.
It must be scared of the devil.
And so I picked up the land shark, and then hid behind Hippolius.
“What is that?”
It was like a mass of ominous, magical energy.
“I suppose it is the false demon bear.”
The false demon bear, or devil, was not a living creature.
Not an animal or monster. And not human either.
I searched the area for a presence, but could not tell where the devil was.
The mysterious masses of energy were flying from every direction.
And it was difficult to know where they were coming from.
“Hippolius. Do you know where the enemy is?”
‘Don’t know!’
“Very well. Then just focus on defending for now.”
‘Okay!’
Hippolius didn’t know either.
However, perhaps dragon, Gisela or Alya knew, as they were up in the air.
As long as we defend ourselves, they would handle the rest.
I was that confident in Gisela.
And so I was not worried.
I was even able to think calmly.
“The devil was probably waiting for this shark to return.”
“Bebebebemumumu.”
The land shark continued to shake.
It had immediately detected that the land shark was close to the field.
As if it had been waiting.
The land shark had also said that it attacked when they went to the fields to work.
Could it really have been watching the whole time?
Was there a reason that the devil was so fixated on the land sharks?
It could just be that it liked to torment them.
Or was there something else that made the land sharks special?
I did not understand.
“Hmm…”
As I thought of such things, the devil’s attacks grew more aggressive.
“Isn’t this a little too much?”
‘It’s nothing!’
Hippolius continued to shoot down the masses of energy. Its magic energy and ability to control it was very impressive.
Ten years ago, I had not known anyone who had such an ability.
“Pii!”
Pii cried one, and then hopped from my shoulder onto Hippolius’s back.
And then it spread out so that it thinly covered the back.
Pii was giving Hippolius a massage.
“Kyuo!”
After that, Hippolius’s magic seemed to improve.
“Bebemu. Bemuu. Bebebemuu.”
“Don’t be afraid. Hippolius is strong.”
The land shark’s teeth were chattering, so I petted it gently.
“Still, it doesn’t look like the attacks will end any time soon.”
‘Easy!’
“That’s amazing, Hippolius!”
The enemy’s attacks were brutal.
But Hippolius was even more impressive for being able to stop all of them.
“It’s hiding itself while attacking with magic. It must be quite intelligent then.”
There were likely many different types of devils.
“So, what should we do?”
As Gisela and the others were still up in the air, they probably had not found the enemy yet.
That showed how good the enemy was at hiding.
“If Gisela can’t find it, I doubt that I will be able to.”
I was a non-combatant, after all.
Gisela was the Hero beloved by God. She had sharp senses and could detect things immediately.
“How is it possible that Gisela hasn’t found it?”
When I looked up, I saw that dragon was slowly circling in the air.
In other words, they were not being attacked.
But we were being attacked. And the attacks have to be coming from somewhere.
Surely you would be able to see the point of origin from above?
“Hmm… In other words, it is hiding so that you cannot tell from above either.”
I gently touched Hippolius.
“I need to concentrate for a moment. I’ll leave the rest to you.”
‘Okay! Kyuo!’
I touched the ground.
And then I activated the appraisal skill on the ground in the middle of the sugar beet field.
If you couldn’t see it from above, the first place to be suspicious of was under the ground.
Though, only something like a mole monster would hide underground.
But this was the new continent. And the enemy was a devil.
Perhaps it did not need to breathe.
The skill’s effects immediately spread out.

“Hippolius. I found the enemy. Can you attack it?”
‘Okay!’
